Environmental Process - "Not a Controlled Action"

The Directors of Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (ASX Code: LNG) are pleased to advise that the Australian Government’s Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts has declared the Gladstone LNG Project – Fisherman's Landing "Not a Controlled Action", under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act).

"The Company’s Managing Director, Mr Maurice Brand, said “the EPBC Act protects matters of national environmental significance and the environment, in relation to Commonwealth actions, and actions on (or impacting upon), Commonwealth land. The Project was referred to the Commonwealth Government on 2nd January 2008 to determine whether the proposed development would require formal assessment and approval under the EPBC Act. Today’s determination of “Not a Controlled Action” means that the Project does not require any further assessment, or approvals, under the EPBC Act and allows the Project to solely proceed under the Queensland and local government environmental process requirements”.
